The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahraich-I is a district level Farm Science Center established by the Narendra Dev University of Agricuture & Technology (ANDUAT), Kumarganj, Ayodhya and 100% sponsored by ICAR New Delhi for speedy transfer of technology on the farmers fields. The KVK can provide better services for the farming community, rural population particularly farm women and rural youths. The KVK for integrated efforts to work intensively to perform better for the upliftment of rural people particularly the farming community and the unemployed rural youth.

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahraich is functioning to give agricultural technology in the system of learning by doing and doing by learning. KVK Bahraich, delivers demand driven agricultural products and services by qualified professionals.

 

Mandate of the KVK

 

“Technology Assessment and Demonstration for its Application and Capacity Development”

To implement the mandate effectively, the following activities are envisaged by the KVK

  • On-farm testing to assess the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems.
  • Frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of technologies on the farmers’ fields.
  • Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their knowledge and skills on modern agricultural technologies.
  • To work as Knowledge and Resource Centre of agricultural technologies for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving the agricultural economy of the district.
  • Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects of interest to farmers.
  • In addition, KVKs produce quality technological products (seed, planting material, bio-agents, livestock) and make it available to farmers, organize frontline extension activities, identify and document selected farm innovations and converge with ongoing schemes and programs within the mandate of KVK.

 

Priority thrust areas

  • Improvement of productivity of crop, fruits and vegetables with the introduction of H.Y.V, Hybrid varieties, latest management technology and package of practices.
  • Promotion of integrated farming system.
  • Promotion of organic farming, improvement of soil health and minimization of chemical use.
  • Promotion of saline/sodic soil management technologies.
  • Reduction in post harvest losses and promotion of value addition.
  • Crop diversification and introduction of high value crops.
  • Breed improvement, health care and feeding management in live-stock.
  • Promotion of Agro-based industries for income generation.
